I was going to Malaysia to shoot a film (Railway) when my mother decided to accompany me. We took the Malaysia KTM train to Kuala Lumpur from Tanjong Pagar train station.

Shot on a miniDV camcorder with a tripod placed in front of me by my seat. The film captures the landscapes of the journey that passes by our window; plains, trees, train stops, traffic, people, towns and villages of Malaysia, against the reflections of train interior of the passengers and activities from the same window; a woman reading a newspaper, my silhouette, etc. My mother is the focus of attention.

The speed of the train captures the various perceptions of movement and with objects that are closer and scenes that are further. Light is also bent in various ways in the speed of the train through the window, how it moves across the scratches on the window, when it darts through spaces between the trees.

This film has been screened in silence or with George Chua’s soundtrack.
